Using drones in the construction industry is becoming more common. Using drones to take pictures of a potential site provides a more in depth understanding of the overall site or conditions. For example, flying the drone over the area taking hundreds of pictures to create what is called an orthomosaic map, which is essentially a high definition satellite picture, or a map, and include it in your proposal with make you stand out and can help better estimate building cost. Secondly, using drones to survey the ground while earthworks is being completed every few days or weeks or two allows you to track progress of the cut and fill process. Normal surveys can take days to complete, but a drone can finish this process in hours. This can also see the efficiency of the vehicles being used for the progress. Along with the earthworks you can also measure stockpile of materials such as dirt or tone and allow a better estimation of how much material is needed and prevent over spending and ordering of materials.
Lastly, using drones during the building process to create the above mentioned orthomosaic map allows you to monitor the construction process of your site. You can even create a highly accurate 3D model.
Combine all of the above and what does this give you? A highly efficient construction site. It improves communication with all parties involved. It allows the contractors, management, and client to watch the construction happen on a regular basis. Speaking of client. Are they located over seas? In another state? This process allows you, the construction company, to show your client real time progress of their building. It allows them, as well as you, to see any potential errors they happen during construction and fix them early, thus saving time and money.
